How do limited-time online bonuses influence user decisions?

I noticed something funny about myself last week. I was browsing a site just to compare a few options, and then a small limited-time bonus popped up with a countdown. I didn’t even need it that much, but suddenly I felt like I had to decide quickly before it disappeared. Do these short-time offers actually help people make better choices, or do they mostly push us into acting faster than we normally would?

I think they mostly speed up decisions, especially when the offer is shown in a way that creates curiosity first and pressure second. I had the same thing happen with an app subscription: I clicked only because I wanted to see the details, then almost bought it because the timer made it feel urgent. This article about https://fscsearchtsin.com/why-online-bonuses-work-curiosity-timing-and-the-fear-of-missing-out/ explains that pretty well. The useful part for me was realizing that curiosity is fine, but accepting too fast without checking the terms is where people usually make messy decisions.

Just passing through, but this reminds me how many small things online are designed around timing now. Even food delivery apps, shopping carts, and streaming trials use little reminders or temporary offers. I usually try to pause for a minute before clicking anything, because if the offer still makes sense after that pause, then it is probably not just the countdown talking.
