Au secours! Programmation qui en poutre plus d'un. Tu sais si une partie des r�alisateurs va se d�placer l�-bas (Sono Sion, c'est � priori probable vu la r�tro)? Y'aura un stand saucisses? Et two thumbs up pour la photo finale!

NIPPON CINEMA

Japanese cinema continued to boom in 2010: 418 Japanese films had a theatrical release and took 53,8 % of the box office. However there is a growing gap between multiplex and arthouse cinemas: the small arthouse cinemas can’t afford to pay the fees for the studio productions. This development gives young directors a chance to release their self produced independent films. Japanese cinema in 2010 was a gross contrast between mainstream blockbusters and very small low-budget productions. We screen the best of both!

NIPPON RETRO

It was 2009 when Sion SONO overwhelmed the public with his monumental oeuvre LOVE EXPOSURE and convinced the Caligari- and FIPRESCI Jury at the Berlinale. The controversial director was born 1960 in Toyokawa, Aichi prefecture, started out with poetry and later moved on to photography which led him to film. In 1985 he screened his first 8mm film at the famous Pia Film Festival in Tokyo. 1991 was his first time at the Berlinale showing BICYCLE SIGHS; he celebrated his breakthrough in Japan with SUICIDE CIRCLE (2001). The multitalented artist has written many screenplays, he has also acted in many films and founded the political street performance and experimental poetry group Tokyo GAGAGA.

NIPPON VISIONS

In 2002 already, Nippon Connection started its NIPPON DIGITAL section in order to focus on the outstanding and broad landscape of independent digital productions in Japan. Since then, its variety of long and short works, videoclips, commercials or even serials gained international attention and helped many unknown filmmakers to present their works to a foreign audience. By the new title NIPPON VISIONS we want to underline the strong focus on those talented artists and their innovative and fresh images. Accordingly, for the second time an international jury will award the director of the most exciting work with the NIPPON VISIONS AWARD, sponsored by the Japanese Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA) from Tokyo and providing a free subtitling for the next film.
